Charles Sizemore is the CIO of Sizemore Capital Management and co-manager of the Blue Orbit Capital fund. Blue Orbit is a quantitative fund designed to deliver returns that are largely uncorrelated to traditional asset classes.
“It all started when I was about nine years old when I saw my grandfather sitting in front of the TV watching CNN and furiously scribbling down ticker symbols and stock prices. I knew right then that the world of investment was the direction I wanted to go.
I started my career as a commercial credit analyst, which was an excellent training ground because it gave me the skills to analyze financial statements and get down to the basics of numbers.
I started Sizemore Capital in 2008 after the financial crisis. I saw an opportunity to get in during the market collapse, but my boss had other ideas. That’s when I realized that If I was going to succeed in this, I needed to have more control and call the shots, that's when I started the firm.
We're always in a constant state of pivoting. We're looking for new adjustments or new strategies that complement what we're already doing. We like to make our existing strategies better. But beyond that, we like to add new ones to the mix that provides diversification. We're in a very competitive business, so your equity portfolio can't just be good, it has to be extraordinary to compete. It’s essential to be adaptable to the market conditions.”
