The Value of Never Giving Up with Jonas Martenson at Ress Capital

Jonas Martenson is the founder of Ress Capital, an alternative investment manager focusing on US life insurance policies. Their fund, Ress Life Investments celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2021.


“Straight off from university in Sweden, I went to Switzerland and worked for Electronics Options Exchanges. I knew I wanted to do something different and it took me some time to find that, I never gave up.



During the 2008 financial crisis, the life settlement investment market shrank in size. So I saw this as an opportunity to launch a life settlement fund that offers risk diversification and attractive returns. We listened to what investors were asking for, so we did something different and provided a liquid product versus the traditional closed-ended long hold funds.


Our policies work by buying premium US life insurances policies and wait until a policy pays out, which then gets an increased net asset value. We deliver to investors stable returns that is not linked to the general economy. I think my superpower is being stubborn and never wanting to give up, which is probably true for many other entrepreneurs as well. And of course, you have to be good at understanding and listening to people.”

Resscapital AB is an alternative investment fund manager (AIFM) authorized and regulated by the Swedish Financial Services Authority (Finansinspektionen). They have since 2011 bought a diversified life insurance portfolio on behalf of Ress Life Investments, which is listed at NASDAQ Copenhagen. Proprietary portfolio management systems and pricing models have been developed, in order to gain an advantage when purchasing policies. The company also collaborates with external medical underwriters specializing in senior mortality in order to provide more accurate assessments and mortality distributions. Their management team has extensive experience in life settlements, complementary backgrounds, and international experience from having worked at major banks and hedge funds. The board of directors consists of both successful entrepreneurs and senior managers with extensive experience in the financial industry.
